We’re speaking of one practice that has fundamentally changed my life.

I would argue that a lot of you subconsciously are practicing this. But if you’re not this is something non-negotiable for me. We men practice this naturally.

We have to if you’re going to be strong or to be the best version of yourself. You need to be objective and rational.

And this practice is called stoicism.

Stoicism was created thousands of years ago. It is a philosophy or more so, a daily practice. I guess you could say mentally, emotionally, spiritually even. Where you just simply are stoic.

Now despite the common knowledge, it doesn’t mean you have to be a rock. It doesn’t mean you never smile and you’re just a robot. No no no.

Stoicism essentially is just not getting too attached to the highs and lows of life.

In a nutshell. If you have only 10 seconds to read this text, stoicism is not getting attached to the highs and lows of life.

Why would we not want to do this?

We get attached to the highs. Shouldn’t it be amazing?

The issue with that is because by default if you get attached to one side of the coin you will inadvertently get attached to the other side.

It’s impossible to only get attached to one side. Think about it. It’s impossible to just chase pleasure if there is no pain because you wouldn’t know what pleasure is.

You wouldn’t even understand what pleasure is without the pain Does that make sense?

So it’s not getting attached either. Because chasing one inevitably shows that you’re running away from another.

If you were getting caught astray or being pulled constantly by your emotions, or with the highs and lows of life, you will not perform at your all-time best. You won’t.

The best athletes are the ones who show up every day regardless if it’s raining outside or if it’s sunny outside. They think of it as the lines of

“I’m playing my game I’m gonna do what I can control. I’m gonna be the best I can be. Regardless of the situation and circumstances”

Those are the best players.

The only way you’re going to be okay with everything is by being attached to nothing.

You cannot get attached to these things. Life is impermanent. Life is continuously ebbing, flowing, it’s moving.

Think of trees. I relate so much to nature and guess what.

You look outside it’s a beautiful example. We are all extensions of trees okay. Mother nature of earth if you will.

Trees.

This is evident they’re constantly changing even right now. Fall is beginning to come and these trees are not looking as green, bright and and amazing right.

Can you imagine if these trees, or even people, we got so attached to how we were and instead forget to appreciate how we are now.

If the trees got attached to how beautiful they were in spring, well then that would mean half of the entire year they would be depressed because they’re not gonna look beautiful the entire year.

But trees of course don’t have a mind. Regardless, trees are the perfect representation because it does not matter the season of the year. They’re still growing.

They don’t get attached to the fluffy shit. Regardless if they have leaves or not. It doesn’t matter. Their roots are growing year after year month after month that is the best most beautiful definition of stoicism.

Don’t get attached to the highs and lows and all these fluffy things. None of that matters.

Rain or shine, all that matters at the end of the day is you’re still growing your roots.
